A Level Biology is for those with a passion for the study of life. It consists of 6 units. The content of Unit 1 covers lifestyle, transport, genes and health and is probably the easiest unit to get a high score in. Concepts of development, plants and the environment are covered in Unit 2, while, the natural environment and species survival are parts of Unit 4. Finally, Unit 5 involves energy, exercise and coordination as well as the study of a scientific journal which varies each session. The difficulty level for each unit greatly depends on the paper at hand, but Unit 4, remains as a common dread to all as its questions tend to be synoptic and requires the student to recall information from other units as well.
As Biology requires a lot to be committed to memory as well an ability to see the bigger picture and how seemingly unrelated pieces of information connect with one another, a clear understanding of the fundamental principles is crucial. The question pattern for Edexcel tends to vary from completely theoretical questions to experimental ones and so practice is the key. Regularly studying biology paired with past paper solving should get one all prepared. The Student Book, the SNAB book, the CGP guide and the Edexcel revision guide are the recommended resources. It would be helpful if you view the pursue as an intellectually rewarding process as opposed to something that will get you a great grade. With adequate determination and effort, along with a passion for it, a student can hit his or her desired target.
